I We Are Waves sono un gruppo italiano, originario di Torino, di musica new wave contaminata da elettronica moderna. Il gruppo è composto da Viax, Cisa, Mene e Adriano.
Esordiscono con un EP di 4 brani nel febbraio 2012. Dopo un periodo fitto di date live, il gruppo pubblica nel 2014 il primo album, "Labile", diffuso dall'etichetta Memorial Records. Il disco viene ottimamente accolto da pubblico e critica, che in poco più di un anno annovera i WAW tra le "migliori band di genere in Italia" (Rockit). Nell'arco del 2014 intraprendono un lungo tour italiano. Nell'Ottobre dello stesso anno iniziano le lavorazioni ai pezzi del secondo album, "Promises", pubblicato dall'etichetta valdostana Meatbeat Records a Maggio 2015.
Il tour che segue porterà alla realizzazione dell’EP elettronico “Promixes”. Un EP speculare al disco uscito appena 9 mesi prima, dove i WAW mostrano il loro volto più elettronico e oltranzista. Non un EP di remix ma un disco decisamente (ri)suonato e nato dalla dimensione live, che Viax e Cisa (rispettivamente voce/chitarra ed elettronica) hanno portato in giro nel corso del 2015 parallelamente a quella più tradizionale.
I We Are Waves sono essenzialmente una band live. In circa 3 anni hanno eseguito più di 100 date in Italia e all’estero, tra cui aperture per CCCP, The Wombats, TheGiornalisti, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Aucan.
Tra le influenze più importanti vi sono molte band new wave attive negli anni '80 come The Cure (cui hanno dedicato una personale rivisitazione del classico "A Forest" nel loro disco d'esordio), Joy Division, Sisters Of Mercy, The Smiths (presenti con una versione stravolta e sintetica del loro capolavoro “How Soon Is Now?” nell’ultimo EP, “Promixes”). Ma anche il wave-rock moderno di White Lies ed Editors, e l'elettronica di stampo synth-rave di Nero, Vitalic, Gesaffelstein, The Toxic Avenger.
Le atmosfere e i testi dei We Are Waves raccontano una quotidianità periferica riverberata in una cornice introspettiva, dove malinconia e fragilità si alternano a un senso di determinazione e consapevolezza, in un continuo gioco di chiaroscuri.

We Are Waves are a new wave/ post-punk band, with modern electronic influences. WAW components are Viax, Cisa, Mene, Adriano.
They debut with a four songs EP in February 2012. After a period full of gigs the band released its first album ‘Labile’ in 2014 via Memorial Records. The album received enthusiastic feedback from audiences and music press, which in just over a year start describing WAW like "one of the best band of its genre in Italy". During 2014 they get on a long Italian tour. In October of the same year they started working at new songs that will compose their second album, "Promises", released by Meatbeat Records in May 2015.
The following tour will lead to the publication of the electronic EP "Promixes". A mirror image of the album they published just 9 months before. Not a remix EP but a reworked album born during the electronic gigs, that Viax and Cisa have carried around during 2015 in parallel to the traditional 4-members set.
We Are Waves are essentially a live band. In less of three years they have performed more than 100 gigs inside and outside Italy, including openings for CCCP, The Wombats, TheGiornalisti, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Aucan.
The most important influences are new wave 80's bands like The Cure (WAW recorded a personal interpretation of the classic "A Forest" in their debut album), Joy Division, Sisters Of Mercy, The Smiths (present in the last EP “Promixes" with a distorted and synthetic version of their masterpiece "How Soon Is Now?"). But you also can find White Lies and Editors modern wave-rock, and especially synth-rave electronic music of Nero, Gesaffelstein, Vitalic, The Toxic Avenger.
Lirically, ‘Promises’ songs are fragments of everyday life reverberated in an introspective frame. Melancholy and fragility alternate with a sense of determination and awareness, in a continuous play of light and shade.
